If you select to have an in-person meeting with a Member of Parliament, it is essential that you provide a 200 word bio.  Your bio will be provided to the Parliamentarian you meet with, please keep it concise and professional. You can also choose to share this information with other delegates in the event app.

Meeting with a Parliamentarian

STA Member delegates may nominate to be considered to be matched with a Parliamentarian and have a meeting in person in Parliament House on day two of the program. Please note, you must be a STEM professional to be eligible to meet with a Parliamentarian. 

Meeting matching

We will aim to match, at minimum, one representative from each STA Member Organisation with a Parliamentarian.  If you wish to be included in the list of eligible delegates to have a meeting, please nominate no more than three topics from the menu below that best reflect your area of expertise.

Parliamentarians have been sent this same list, and will select which topics they wish to discuss with STEM professionals. You will be matched with a Parliamentarian based on both theirs and your topic selections. To assist with meeting matching, write one sentence describing the most interesting thing about your work. 

Meetings will take place at the time elected by the Parliamentarian, it could be anywhere in the following timeframe -  Thursday 13 February any time between 7:30am and 4:30pm.

Will you be bringing a prop to your meeting with a Parliamentarian? If so, what will the prop be? Please be as detailed as possible and include dimensions.

Please be as specific as you can in your description of your prop/ demo as it may be used as a display throughout day two of SMP in Parliament House.

Any props that you plan on bringing yourself will need to be within the dimensions of the security screening (600mm x 400mm). If your prop's dimensions are larger than this, please contact us at events@sta.org.au to discuss the transportation of your prop through the APH loading dock.

National Press Club address

The Science Meets Parliament National Press Club address will take place in Canberra on Wednesday 12 February 2025.

Ticket numbers are limited, and are NOT included in any registration type.

The address will be broadcast nationally on ABC TV and iView. 

 

If ticket numbers are exhausted please add yourself to the waitlist. We expect to have more tickets available closer to the event, you will be notified when these become available.
